Thank you for your interest in visiting Panama!

Please read the following information carefully, as it may help you save time and money when you require Consular assistance for your next trip or to complete important documentation. This website is updated on a regular basis, so make sure to check back for any changes that may currently be applicable.

  • If you are sending documents by mail, we recommend you use Priority Mail (DHL Express, FEDEX Express, Express Mail) or a Courier to avoid delays.
  • Please include a self-addressed prepaid envelope for the return of your documents. Include a cover letter with your telephone number and email address where you can be reached in case you need to be contacted for additional information.
  • If your documents are incomplete for any reason, they may be sent back to you with a letter explaining the corrections that need to be made.
  • All fees must be paid by bank wireless transaction to the Consulate of Panama, Account. We do not accept personal checks. Cash will only be accepted if applying in person.
  • All documents should be sent to the following address:

  • If you are applying in person, we attend on a first-come, first-serve basis. Our hours of operation are from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding Panamanians and South African Hollydays.

  • Travel Documents/Salvo Conducto

    If you have lost your passport or it has expired and you need to travel to Panama, you will need to apply for a travel document. International regulations require everyone traveling internationally to bear a valid passport or a travel document even if they are traveling to their home country. The travel document may be issued by our Consulate within two to three business days. Before applying to a Travel Document, please keep in mind that this travel document is only valid for 1 month. Note: In order to leave the country, any person traveling abroad must have a valid passport  or a travel document.  This travel document (SALVO CONDUCTO) is only valid for traveling to Panama, it would not be valid for traveling to other countries. 

    Requirements:

  • Signed letter of Request for a Travel Document (click to download). The letter must include the applicant’s e-mail address, mailing address, and telephone number.
  • Copy of Passport and birth certificate or ID (cédula).
  • Two passport pictures.
  • Fee: It must be cover at the office of the National Passport Authority in Panama.
  • Prepaid self-addressed envelope to return document.
  •  If the passport was lost, fill out the Police Report, If not applying in person, this form must be notarized and authenticated by a Panamanian Consulate for a R/. 510.00 (South African Rands) fee.
  • Legalization of documents

  • Any official document to be authenticated by the Consulate must be an original document or certified copy with original seal and signature.
  • In case of original private documents, the signature must be endorsed by a Notary Public. Make sure the signature is legible. If it is not, please write out the full name of signatory.
  • The Authentication fee for each document is R/. 510.00 South African Rands. Payable by bank wireless transaction to the Consulate of Panama Account.  We do not accept personal checks.
  • Cash will only be accepted if applying in person.
  • Self- addressed prepaid envelope for return of documents.
  • The legalization process is completed when the Authentication Department of Panama’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs authenticates the signature of the Panamanian Consular official.
  • Traveling with Pets

    If you are bringing pets to Panama, be sure to follow the following steps:

    I. REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY OF SMALL PETS TO PANAMA:
    You will be asked upon arrival at Tocumen Airport for a Certificate of Good Health of Exportation for Small Animals issued by the Sanitary Authority from the country of origin. This form has to be authenticated by a Panamanian Consulate.

    II. AUTHENTICATION OF THE CERTIFICATE
    The Consular Fee is R/. 510.00 (South African Rands) per document, payable by money order made out to the Consulate of Panama You must include a Self-addressed prepaid envelope for return of documents.

    III. PROCEEDINGS OF THE PAPERWORK FOR HOME QUARANTINE TO GIVE UPON ARRIVAL IN PANAMA

  • Fill out the form “Home Quarantine Request”
  • Upon arrival at the Tocumen Airport, all documents previously mentioned have to be given to the Veterinary Doctor of the Department of Zoonosis Control, who will verify the same.
  • If the owner fulfils all requirements, the animal(s) will be given back to its owner. If the requirements are not fulfilled, the pet will be send back to the country of origin using the same airline in which the pet arrived.
  • The fee for the Home Quarantine is B/.130.00ºº per animal paid only in cash at Tocumen Airport.
  • NOTE: Fax the completed “Home Quarantine Request” form to (507) 238-3855 / (507) 238-4059 or email it to cam@minsa.gob.pa.   This form must be sent to the Ministry of Health authorities three (03) days prior to your arrival in Panama.
    Take note of the following ministry working hours in the Tocumen International Airport in Panama:

  • Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm
  • Offices are closed on weekends and holidays
